Shibboleth – The Shaman's Apprentice

Shibboleth – The Shaman's Apprentice December 13 2016

The author's edit of SHIBBOLETH – THE SHAMAN'S APPRENTICE is now available in limited numbers.

I have been told I take delivery on Wednesday 14 Dec or Thursday 15th and I have about 50 of this edition of 300 available on a first in first serve basis.

For those who want to pay by credit card I have set up a page on the Cyclops Press website: http://www.cyclopspress.com.au/…/shibboleth-the-shamans-app…

It works out at $33 (including GST) plus $10.50 for postage (postage is a killer so I have to add it). If you would prefer to collect the book and avoid postage costs I can send you account details to make an electronic transfer.

All books will be signed and numbered (the last 50 approx books from an edition of 300). Let me know if you want a personalised message or just a signature (the jury is out on what is more valuable for collectors, but usually it goes in favour of just a signature.

If you know anyone who would be interested please share this post.

Will send more information with the books.

Regards,

John Ogden

Shibboleth. The Shaman's Apprentice. August 23 2016

For everyone who contributed to the readyfundgo crowd funding campaigns to raise development funds, I have to advise that my publishing date has been pushed back again, but don't fret, you don't have much longer to wait for your special limited edition print run. The book is currently with the proofreader and the cover artwork is almost finalised. Adam Ludd has done a great cover.

UPDATE 22/8/16

My plan to publish the limited edition for crowd funders evaporated under pressure of edits and a trip to China to discuss a feature film to be shot there. I have now completed the latest round of proofreading, but as I did some editing along the way I will need a little more time to check it before it goes to the printer. I was hoping to get the manuscript to the printer before I leave for a survey in southern China but will now have to wait until I get back at the end of September.

This will not be a commercial release, but keep tuned here for developments.

ANTICIPATED BOOK LAUNCH DATE: November 2016

Shibboleth April 26 2016

The second round of crowd funding for my debut novel has now been finalised so I want to send out a massive thank you to all you beautiful people who contributed to the Shibboleth crowd funding campaign (both 1&2).

I have revised the author's edition print-run down to a maximum of 300 signed and numbered copies, potentially making this limited release a collectable.

All going well, this edition will be supplied to all those generous sponsors by July 2016 at the latest. I just have one more read through, proofreading and some design work to finalise.

Thank you again for all your support. I will get to you all individually soon. Without your help this final hurdle could not have been jumped, as 4-5 years of unpaid writing can put a hole in your pocket.

Shibboleth April 03 2016

PLEASE SHARE:

You are probably all sick of these posts re the SHIBBOLETH crowd funding campaign, but I think it's necessary to answer a few queries.

The target is to raise enough money to print a special advance edition for all my supporters and for the purpose of review and attracting an international publisher. But I don't expect a hand out, it is more about making an advance purchase at a good price in order to get the book completed. There are all sorts of levels you can help and they are listed when you follow the link attached.

Some are concerned that the book may not get finished. Let me assure you that after 4-5 years of working away (without pay or subsidy) at the approx 500 pages that form Shibboleth, and as the author and publisher of 6 notable books already, THIS BOOK WILL BE FINISHED HELL OR HIGH WATER.

Those heavy hitters who were there in the early campaign to raise funds for the editing stage, please let me reassure you that there is not much longer to wait. My best bet is 3-4 months from now you will have your rewards.

Even at the entry level (and most popular) contribution of $25 you are able to save money on the special advance limited edition of the book. This print run will be 1000 copies maximum, and most likely only 500, so it may even become a collectable (for its rarity alone).

As my debut novel I have broken a few rules and guidelines but various editors and readers of the latest drafts both enjoyed and been provoked by this unusual mix of earthiness and philosophy.

Like a good movie, it will keep you thinking long after you have finished reading. There is a trilogy in the pipe if I have enough years left in me.

If you want to find out more about it, please go to:https://readyfundgo.com/…/shibboleth-the-shamans-apprentice… 3 author-john-ogden/

If you have already helped and joined the campaign (including the earlier one last year), a big thank you.

If are not in a position to do so, please help an by share the link with someone who may be interested.

SHIBBOLETH. The Shamans' Apprentice March 31 2016

The crowd funding campaign to raise funds to print a special edition of Shibboleth. The Shamans' Apprentice will finish on the 8th April.

The target is to raise enough money to print a special advance edition for all my supporters and for the purpose of review and attracting an international publisher.

There are excellent packages in the mix (especially for those who love books and photography). Even at the entry level (and most popular) contribution of $25 you are able to save money on the special advance limited edition of the book which is sure to become a collectable (for its rarity alone).

SHIBBOLETH – debut novel by John Ogden March 07 2016

So here it is!

My debut novel 'Shibboleth- The Shaman's Apprentice' is dangerously close to completion.

Following on from my quiet announcement last week, I have launched a crowd funding campaign for the final stage – the design and printing of a small limited edition advance copy of the novel for pitching, reviews ... and for my supporters.

An initially campaign last year successfully raised the funds to pay for two great editors, and I was also able to engage some legal opinion. Although the novel is a work of fiction, it is set in a very real world around real and controversial events, so due diligence had to be applied.

In truth, the first round of crowd funding sponsors did all the heavy lifting in that it was their belief that I could actually write a novel, and blind faith that I could get to this stage, that actually allowed me to progress. In four decades of working as an award winning photographer, filmmaker, artist, writer and publisher, I have never received a government grant, so I would like to restate how much I appreciate the support of all those who have helped in getting this work completed. I have been working away for almost 5 years on this manuscript, but those promised rewards are not far away.

For those who join in to help get the book over the line, I want to ensure that you get something very special for your generosity. The advance small rum special edition will be the author's edition (bit like a 'director's cut'). I expect that it will change substantially (ie get homogenised) for an international audience, so this small edition will become something of a collectible. If anyone wishes to write a review on this edition, or just give a quotable quote, it could become part of the final package. I will be offering a prize for the best review – even if it is not flattering.

The response from editors and readers has been tremendous. Here are a couple of quotes from the editors:

"I’ve had a blast reading and working on Shibboleth. The story is sure to have far-reaching appeal – it is packed with compelling characters and events, rich with symbolism and philosophy, and bursting with contemporary history and intrigue. Ogden's command of language engages and holds the reader, pushing the movement of the story through its paces." Brigitte Staples.

"Shibboleth – The Shamans' Apprentice is an amazing read; profound, shocking, hilarious and inspiring." Din Heagney.

Shibboleth – last round of crowd funding March 05 2016

Late last week I had a soft launch for a new crowd funding campaign to complete my debut novel 'Shibboleth- The Shaman's Apprentice'. The first round successfully raised the funds to engage two great editors, and I was also able to engage some legal opinion. Although the novel is a work of fiction, it is set in a very real world and actual events.

The early sponsors did all the heavy lifting in that it was their blind faith that I could actually write a novel that got me to this next stage – the design and printing of a small limited edition advance copy of the novel for pitching, reviews ... and for my supporters. In four decades of working as an award winning photographer, filmmaker, artist, writer and publisher, I have never received a government grant, so I would like to restate how much I appreciate the support of all those who have helped in getting this work completed. I have been working away for almost 5 years on this manuscript, but the end is now very much in sight.

I will be making a bigger announcement early next week, but wanted to lead with this small notice to alert those who have already thrown their weight behind the project, and those who may want to get in early for the restricted offers.
